Why Smoke and Booze...

Why do people shout so much about those who somke and drink. What they don't understand is that those people have good reasons to do so. Being rejected by the nature when she was distributing that very rare intellect, they took to these to improve. Wondering how?

A famous wild life safari goer and observer, as far as I remember, once said
" A herd of buffaloes can run at maximum speed which is the maximum speed of the slowest buffalo."

Analogous to "A chain is as strong as the weakest link"

So what would you do to increase the average speed of the herd of buffaloes. Pretty straight forward, kill the slowest bufallo. So you keep on killing the slowest buffalo untill the average speed of the herd is greater than the threshold you have set.

Now, take the case of the brain. Brain has many divisions, one devoted to listening, one devoted to hearing, one devoted for balance, one for learning, one for memory, body temperature, heart rate and what not. Brain cells all work in tandem to produce whatever trace of intelligence fools have or whatever plenty of genious one genoius may have. A single brain cell is useless. It's all that they do in tandem that results in intelligence and brilliance. So, the maximum speed at the which the brain cells work would be maximum speed at which the slowest brain cell would process or carry any information.

Also, the brain cells which are weak are those which have outlived their life and are getting old. So these old brain cells pull down the efficieny and efficacy of the brain. These old brain cells are also weak. Why? Brain cells are considered old and weak when their cell composition is deteriorating when something goes wrong with cell structure either the cell body or axon or dendrites of the neurons. Neurons are brain cells. So when these brain cells weaken and get old they loose their power to fight toxins as compared to the new or young and healthy cells. So in case of any onslaught of toxins the one most susceptible to death would be the old and weak cells. The young and healthy one would survive.
The same is true for every cell in the body.

Now, coming back to smoking and drinking. Everybody agrees that smoking and drinking do nothing but inject toxins into the body. Once these toxins are inside our body they attack all the cells, weak or strong, old or young. The young ones fight tooth and nail for their right for survival while the old ones, yes yes thay too engage themselves in this fight but eventually they loose and die. This reminds me of a saying in Hindi "Vinaash hi srijan ji janni hai" (Destruction is the mother of all construction). So what we have is that toxins kill the old weak cells and pave way for new ones.

The maximum speed at which the brain functions is the maximum speed of the slowest, read old and weak, brain cell. We have killed the old and weak cells. So in effect we have increased the speed at which the brain functions. Voilla! Also we have made way for new cells to come up which will also increase the average speed by pulling up number of cells working at high speed.

Smoke and booze all day. As much as you can. Bring out the genius in you.
Spread the word.

Very nice. You make a good point. Your justification is valid. It's less of a declaration of individualism, as seen in a Hemingway-style defense of the behavior. I've never really thought of it as an avenue for self-improvement. If that's the case, due to last night's activities, I'm well on the way to bettering myself and the evidence of this may just show up when this headache clears. Thanks again.

It seems you have take a lesson from my previous comments. This one I admit is better.
I mean after reading those anything wud have been better :)
Ok technically, I'm amazed by your assumption that Smoking and drinking though can kill the weak cells but just cant even make the healthy cells weak. What a great specialization and optimized way to target and attack.
No wonder these toxins are more clever than the intoxicated brains of those who smoke and drink and write articles like these.

In the heavier vein: One of my neighbouring uncle used to smoke and his wife was suffering from asthma. Uncle could not avoid smoking inside the bedroom which used to evoke her asthma attack almost regularly. Even after doctors' repeated warnings uncle cudn't help it. Aunty's asthma got deteriorated and poor lady died a premature death at the age of 40 after yet another severe attack. Now his son who is class 12th is a chain smoker and uncle literally begs him to shun the bad habbit.
You may not mind giving up 11 minutes of your life with each cigaratte, Do you have the right to take the lives of Passive smokers for granted ?

Really good argument for the pro-booze party.
You're making some very wrong assumptions here and using flawed logic though. Alcohol is selective when it comes to killing of those poor lil brain cells? No.Nope.Nada. It just dissolves the poor sods en-masse....(wish ur line of reasoning were right though!)

Parting Shot: TT sir, booze ka asar apke dimaak par dikhayi de raha hai! ;)

All arguments exepted, jst wanted to point out 2 things........
1. Do all the experimentations with u'r own brain cell till i dnt get that smoke.
2. Dont drink and drive, Smoke weed and fly!!!

why restrict u'r self to regular stuff increase the rate of killin the WEAK cells switch over to grass!!!

Hey John, Don't try to self-improvement the way i've written it.

Anonymous, good to see you back. Ever since your've commented, I've been asked time and again "Who's this anonymous?". :(

It's not the selectivity of the toxins but more the resistive cpacity of the cells against these toxins.

Epiphany, I think I've already improved to perfection :( with these only. No space for others.

Good argument. Send this to cigarrete and hard drink makers. Probably they would make you their advertising head.
Point missing-young cells become weak after fighting. Therefore, life of young cells also reduced.
Consider the non-drinkers when drinkers drive after a drink.

Interesting.
Washing post knows how to tap what's going on in the mind of a person in far off lands.
Well this thing I've been telling my friends since 4 yrs from now.
